During the spring semester of 2023 Build Ukraine Democracy created and taught the new course “Legal Research and Writing”. Students from Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University (VNU) and Lutsk National Technical University (LNTU) attended jointly. BUD, VNU, and LNTU are proud of their successful efforts to bring together students from different universities: A first for both universities.

Due to Dean Anton Demchuk’s (BUD Senior Consultant) efforts, BUD has successfully created three university courses that were attended simultaneously by students of two national universities: A first for both institutions. A lecture on the subject of democracy was interrupted by Russian terror activities.  BUD quickly moved with students and faculty to a bomb shelter and continued the lecture.  Later, BUD also met with top representatives of the bachelor of law program at LPNU, including Doctor Vitaliy B. Kovalchuk of the Department of Theory of Law and Constitutionalism, and many students.

Dean Yaroslav Lazur of the UzhNU Faculty of Law hosted Build Ukraine Democracy (BUD) in Uzhhorod. The fact-finding mission included meetings to discuss possible cooperation in the future, and a lecture by BUD representatives on the topic of democracy to university students.

End of 2023

Students of VNU and LNTU again joined together during the autumn semester of 2023 for the new “Democracy” course created by BUD. The course was delivered twice a week by Eric Putzig (BUD President) to students of various faculties from both universities.  The alpha testing phase now complete, revisions will be incorporated.

Spring 2024

Students of VNU and LNTU again joined together during the spring semester of 2024 for the beta-testing phase of the democracy course created by BUD. "Understanding Democracy" is a revised version of the 2023 course.

In recognition of his work with its various faculties, Volyn National University bestowed upon BUD President Eric Putzig the Doctoral degree “Honoris Causa” for his advocacy of human rights and acting as a “servant to the principles of democracy”.

A lecture entitled “Freedom of the Citizen’s Mind” was delivered live online to various national universities in Ukraine by BUD President Eric Putzig, who resides in Lutsk, Volyn Oblast.  It presented a comparative analysis of a citizen’s cognitive awakening during the age of Athenian democracy to a citizen’s cognitive subjugation during the decline of the Roman Republic and advent of the Imperial Roman Empire.

Kicking off the Fall semester of 2024 BUD presented to students from various faculties of Lutsk National Technical University a lecture on the importance of democratic governance and invited them to join BUD’s newly revised course “Democracy”.

For “outstanding merits in the field of law” and “great personal contribution to the establishment and development of Lutsk National Technical University” LNTU’s scientific council bestowed upon BUD President Eric Putzig  the Doctoral degree “Honoris Causa”.

In October BUD Co-Founder Anton Demchuk and BUD President Eric Putzig travelled to Ostroh (Rivne Oblast) to present two days of lectures to students of various faculties of the National University Ostroh Academy, founded in 1576.  Topics presented included an examination of the Athenian democratic experience as expressed through the arts of that time, the financial benefits of a democratic system of governance, the financial drain caused by corruption, and the need for carefully structured institutions of government with efficient systems of communication.
